For episode #50 I am super stoked to bring in creator of The Purple Room, and KTUH's own, Sam Champagne dropping by as guest DJ. Sam has been killin' it on live events lately, holding it down at north shore's new hotspot The Elephant Shack, as well as Manoa Gardens' Wednesday Green Drinks, and a recent events with Detroit's own DJ Assault. And when he's not creating his own events for Purple Room, he is busy as a DJ at Asylum or as Host of his Monday morning show on KTUH, The Recovery from 6am-9am. Sam Champagne has a versatility to his style that suits his eclectic music library perfectly. Downbeat, world, and tech can seamlessly collide with bassy, groovin' house music in a matter of minutes. If you haven't heard The Recovery yet, it is a must listen! The music is perfect for those Monday mornings and his guest DJs bring variety, skill, and energy that I personally guarantee will make Mondays considerably more bearable!

Episode #49 featured my rendition of the "History of House Music." The exploration started with the break loops, drum machine, and soulful indie disco cuts that were the signature of Frankie Knuckles. We heard the Belleville Three and a few of their influences like Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder. Acid House, New York's Club Kids scene, French House, and the trans-Atlantic exchange of house music culture round out the history section as the show moves into the commercialization of electronic music and discusses the intertwined nature of electronic and hip-hop music and culture.
