DJ $kinny Guest Set Now Available & Radiothon Preview
/Special Radiothon Episode #49 "History of House Music" will feature an abbreviated history of house music. From Chicago, to Detroit, New York, London, and Berlin, we'll track the genesis of house music, including the outgrowth of genres like techno, trance, EDM, and more. In the four-plus decades since Frankie Knuckles presented his signature sound, looping funk and soul instrumental break sections and matching the beat to a drum machine, at Chicago's The Warehouse, house music has evolved, adapted, and in some cases appropriated, for better or for worse. The journey will venture through Detroit's Belleville Three, New York's Club Kids, Frankie Bones and the P.L.U.R. movement, the rise of Berlin's simultaneous independent scene, rave culture, festivals, adoption into mainstream and pop music, commercialization of dance music, House and hip-hop re-converge, and of course, in the spirit of House Connection, sampling. This Saturday, March 24th, DJ $kinny will be blowing out the speakers at The Elephant Shack in Haleiwa with Chance King and Sam Champagne.
